At AFRICAN BUSH TRAINING, our main purpose is to train enthusiastic, competent and ethical field guides, and environmental educators in and around the world famous Kruger National Park, located in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. 

With the guidance and care of our experienced instructors - we aim to help develop passionate students into confident and knowledgeable ambassadors for wildlife conservation in Africa.

  COURSE OVERVIEW 

This comprehensive 2-month course has been designed to supply the safari industry with high-quality FGASA and CATHSSETA qualified professional field guides, equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to uphold industry standards. The FGASA Apprentice Field Guide Qualification is the most sought after qualification required by the guiding industry for employment. The course also includes the CATHSSETA Nature Site Guide qualification, which is the minimum requirement for guides to guide legally in South Africa. Beyond Southern Africa’s borders, the higher standard of the FGASA qualification also enjoys recognition in many other countries on and off the African continent.

The ADVANCED BUSH SKILLS COURSE has been designed and is facilitated by veteran FGASA trails guides, training instructors and assessors…  This action packed 3-week course provides the ideal opportunity for students to get in close contact with the wild outdoors learning how to apply theoretical knowledge learned from books in practice, and more importantly so gaining a holistic understanding of ecosystems, bio-diversity and how man can make the most of the wilderness.
The course is specifically aimed towards serious nature enthusiasts and students preparing for the FGASA Apprentice Field Guide Assessment… 

 COURSE MODULES:

COURSE OVERVIEW  

This course introduces students to various environmental educational concepts, the development and impact of environmental education in South Africa, design of an environmental educational programme and the development of a communication strategy for effective liaison between communities and protected areas to address environmental issues and risks, for a sustainable environment.

COURSE OVERVIEW  

This 2-week FGASA Bird Guide course is aimed at you the existing guide who is aspiring to achieve exceptional knowledge and understanding of birds. We aim to unfold the fascinating life of birds by discovering a whole new world that opens up to birds as a result of flight, the power of song, and the diverse adaptations which made birds so successful. 

COURSE MODULES: 

Evolution of Birds, Bird Anatomy and Physiology, Zoo-geography, Adaptations to the environment, Bird Identification, Classification of Birds, Feeding and Breeding Behaviour, Adaptations, Nesting Behaviour, Nest types, Chick development and care for young, Bird Conservation, Migration and navigation and Bird names explained...

Most of the days on the course you will enjoy morning or afternoon activities in the form of drives or guided walks, exploring the beautiful Guernsey Nature Reserve or venturing deep into the heart of the mighty Kruger National Park.

COURSE OVERVIEW  

On achieving this specialist qualification over and above a FGASA nature guiding qualification you will be able to provide a closely integrated interpretation of the natural resources and attractions in the Savannah Biome, showing the interdependence of climate, weather, rock, and soil abiotic factors intermingled with biotic features such as vegetation and animal life. You will be able to apply meaningful interpretations based on a sound ecological and conservationist approach by taking the biome as an integrated entity. You will be able to conduct a specialist guided biome experience specializing in the Savannah Biome as area of specialization.
